Every Airstream is manufactured with durable materials that last for generations. A vast majority of materials left over from production are recycled. Airstream is constantly working to better understand how we can further reduce non-recyclable output during manufacturing. In 2017, we recycled 613,000 lbs of materials. This includes 1,038 tons of aluminum, 35 tons of steel, as well as hundreds of pounds of wood, cardboard, plastic, copper, and water.
Designed to Last
Did you know that 70% of all Airstreams ever built are still in use today?
This is only possible by using durable materials, intentional design and engineering principles, and skilled craftspeople to build vehicles that endure generations.
There is no expiration date for an Airstream, so you don’t see them in landfills. From durable aluminum to handcrafted furniture and cabinetry, every Airstream is individually built to last for generations.

Designed for the Environment
Every day, we look at manufacturing Airstreams in a way that continues to minimize our environmental impact.
Airstream’s facilities in Jackson Center, Ohio, are 100%-powered by renewable energy credits. Through Jackson Center Municipal Power’s EcoSmart Choice program, Airstream purchases renewable energy certificates from wind, hydroelectric, or landfill gas projects offered through American Municipal Power, Inc.
We’re choosing to be responsible stewards of the outdoors by supporting emissions-free sources of energy. In 2018, by using renewable energy credits, we offset 4,220 metric tons of CO2. Through renewable energy credit programs and ongoing initiatives to use energy-efficient lighting and machinery, we’re helping contribute to a healthier environment.
Going Further with Less
Powered by the Sun
In 2019, solar panels on all shipped Airstreams accounted for an estimated 429,000 watts of power that help enable our customers to do more with less when they’re outdoors.
Silver is the New Green
Furthermore, each Airstream vehicle has been rated “Certified Green” by TRA Certification, the internationally accredited certification organization. Airstream leverages its influence to bring successful, environmentally friendly innovations to the outdoors.
