Airstream Basecamp 2.0: Redesigned, New and Improved

Our founder, Wally Byam, always said “Let’s not make changes, let’s make only improvements.” To this day, Airstream honors that idea by constantly working to make every product better and better.

Today’s Basecamp is actually a new and improved version of our original Basecamp model, which came out in 2007 and took a lot of inspiration from Wally’s first teardrop trailer from the 1930's.

The idea then was to build a compact, ultra-towable trailer with plenty of room and every amenity you need on board. Since the original concept, the Basecamp has developed into a beautifully designed trailer that also meets a travelers needs.

Since Basecamp’s first iteration, we’ve spent years concepting new ideas and perfecting existing ones, resulting in even more functional design features like an on-board restroom, more kitchen space and sophisticated appliances, and smarter storage. It’s a Basecamp that’s more than ready to impress today’s adventurers, no matter where you’re headed.

After the launch of the redesigned Basecamp in 2016, we knew we couldn't stop there. Adventurers wanted to go further, see more, and take their Basecamp with them every step of the way. The Basecamp X answered the call with a more rugged approach that allows you to go even farther off the beaten path. The package includes Goodyear® Wrangler® tires and black shadow wheels, plus a 3″ lift kit and a raised hitch jack foot pad for even more road clearance. Stainless steel rock guards and a solar window guard also keep the trailer looking good, even if you put it through the wringer. The
