Airstream /ˈerˌstrēm/
… noun: An iconic, aerodynamic travel trailer or touring coach, crafted to last a lifetime.
… verb: to embrace a lifestyle of travel and exploration in an Airstream, immersing oneself in nature, local cultures, and personal pursuits along the way.
Buying your first Airstream is a dream come true – but it’s just the start of a lifelong dream come true. Hitting the open road and living the Airstream experience takes the dream of living your best life to a new level of possibility. Longtime Airstreamers will tell you that Airstreaming has a tendency of rewriting your DNA and influencing nearly every decision you make – from how you parent, what kinds of vacations you take, what you want out of your work life, and how you want to spend your retirement years.
Dreams of Airstreaming look different for every person:
- An Airstream travel trailer is parked in a field alongside hundreds of other fans. Donned with an “I’m your biggest fan” t-shirt, this rock-loving Airstreamer snagged the perfect spot to see her favorite band at a regional musical festival.
- A touring coach pulls up to an art gallery, with half-squeezed acrylic paint tubes and used brushes of all shapes and sizes ready to be unloaded. This artistic Airstreamer is checking off a bucket-list item: attend a renowned artist’s workshop.
- A family pours out of a rounded, riveted Airstream trailer after being on the road all day, finally stretching their legs, climbing trees, and taking in the sights during their first-ever boondocking trip to a national park.
Whether you are an avid festival-goer, a budding artist, or an active family, Airstreaming is for everyone – all ages, cultures, and lifestyles. It is not exclusive, nor judgemental. The flexibility, comfort, versatility, and dependability of Airstream travel trailers and touring coaches is the perfect companion for your pursuits, whatever and wherever they might lead you.
There’s Never a Shortage of Airstreaming Adventures
Those in the Airstream family love sharing their rich and vivid stories, and they aren’t always around a campfire when doing so. Airstreaming doesn’t have a default setting for a standard camping trip (whatever that is). Each Airstreamer chooses their own adventure.
For Molly Moore and her husband, Joe, Airstreaming involves homeschooling their four young kids while on the road full-time.
Airstreaming for Maria Kacavas involves side-of-the-road sandwich stops and using her Interstate 19 as a blind for wildlife photography.
Charissa leaned into Airstreaming to overcome grief and process loss, finding the Airstream family along the way, “I’ve made treasured friends, discovered my strengths, developed new skills, overcome obstacles, seen over 60,000 miles of our beautiful country and created priceless memories.”
John Thurmond’s Airstreaming adventures involve unintended detours and his custom-built, all-sky camera that can record the night sky from the roof of his Rangeline while he sleeps.
Kendal and Collin Strachan never stop Airstreaming, living full-time, off-grid in their silver bullet under the Alaskan sky with their young son. As commercial adventure photographers, they regularly use their mountaineering and ice climbing experience to access glaciers, iceberg lakes and steep mountain ridges.
Rangeline owner Scott Fortnum’s love for Airstreaming embraces parking it wherever and whenever he sees fit. “For me, the real win on this is, Hey, I’m tired. Let’s pull over here and call it a night,” Scott says. “That’s what I love — just being able to go. And we stop when we want to stop, and eat when we want to eat … we could even pull over and have a nap if we wanted to.”
Shyanne has a passion for fly fishing. Airstreaming allowed her to do it with all the comforts of home within reach. “The most important thing for me since becoming a mom was to not lose my passion for fishing and to be able to share that with my son and to hopefully be able to give him the adventures and experiences that I was not able to have as a little girl.”
Wally Byam: The Original Airstreamer
The original Airstreamer was Wally Byam. He and his first wife Marion went camping regularly, but she never enjoyed sleeping on the ground in a tent. In the spirit of adventure and exploration, he decided to do something different: he built his own travel trailer.
His idea started as a way to be more comfortable while traveling, but over his lifetime it became something much bigger: the birth of a unique product, an iconic brand, and a customizable way of life that we now know as Airstreaming.
For Wally, Airstreaming was comfortably traveling the world with friends and encouraging others to do the same. In an Airstream, Wally toured Europe, Central America, Mexico, Canada, Africa, and The United States, making friends and incredible memories along the way.
Airstreaming is What You Make it.
Investing in an Airstream is more than just buying a camper. It’s an investment in your future, filled with self-discovery, cherished memories, and the freedom to chase your dreams.
You get to define what “Airstreaming” means to you.
Perhaps it’s:
- Traveling down the coast to find the best fish tacos.
- Boondocking miles from civilization.
- Travelling to see family on the other side of the country.
- Visiting the most odd roadside tourist attractions.
- Checking off your bucket list items before your next milestone birthday.
- Pursuing your hobby.
Your Airstreaming journey is yours to define and happens on the road you want to travel, wherever you decide to park, and whatever you do once you get there.
