Miranda Lambert's 'Platinum' Lifestyle

“Sometimes I wish I lived in Airstream homemade curtains, lived just like a gypsy.” — Miranda Lambert, “Airstream Song”

Spunky country star Miranda Lambert has not been quiet about her love for Airstreams. Her album Revolution, which was released in 2009, featured a song called “Airstream Song” that included the lyrics above. However, that was just the beginning of Miranda’s public love affair with Airstreams.

On her Roadside Bars & Pink Guitars Tour in 2010, Miranda added a new component to her caravan—a 1954 Flying Cloud Airstream! The trailer was custom designed and renovated by The Junk Gypsy Company, a trio composed of sisters Amie and Jolie Sikes, and their mother, Janie. You may know the Sikes from their HGTV show Junk Gypsies, which just began its second season. The Junk Gypsies are Airstream fans too—they even renovated country music star Dierks Bentley’s Airstream tour bus on the show!

Miranda took the Airstream on the road with her for the next few years, and she recently released her newest album called “Platinum.” While the album name may not automatically evoke the image of an Airstream, her album cover certainly does. The cover of “Platinum” shows Miranda standing in the doorway of an Airstream trailer and even features the Airstream’s signature rivets around the edges. But what really inspired the name of the album?

“Platinum is my hair color, and my wedding ring, and the color of my Airstream and the name of one of my favorite beers,” Miranda said. “It’s about a lifestyle.”

In May 2014, Miranda kicked off her Platinum Across America Tour to give fans a sneak peek of her new album. But that’s not all people got to experience on the tour—Miranda brought along her Airstream, which she calls Wanda the Wanderer, for everyone to see in person! Wanda was all dressed up and topped by a 6-foot-wide, 3-foot-tall aluminum crown covered in crystals.

“Wanda is my grandma on my mom’s side, although we call her Nonny,” Miranda said. “She’s a feisty lady full of sass. Since she can’t travel with us everywhere, we decided to name our faithful Airstream road companion, ‘Wanda The Wanderer,’ after her. This Airstream has been with us on tours throughout the years and is now embarking on yet another adventure! Platinum Across America!”

Not all fans were allowed to visit Wanda, but everyone could participate in the Platinum Park activities, which included a hair station, sun-tea stand, corn hole, a leather workshop, vintage postcard photo ops and more. If you missed her, however, you can still get the Wanda-the-Wanderer experience—just visit her website or follow her on Twitter to hear from Miranda’s Airstream herself!

“She IS the ‘queen of the road,’ and I’m so happy to share her, in all of her glory, with fans across the nation,” Miranda said. “She is what Platinum is all about! Cheers, Wanda! And remember, not all who wander are lost!”

Did you go to one of the stops on the Platinum Across America Tour? Or even better, did you get to meet Wanda the Wanderer in person? We’d love to hear about it! Share your experience and post photos on our Facebook page.
