A-List: Barebones Living

You know you’ve taken your Airstream deep into nature when nightfall brings a blanketing darkness, pinpricked only by the lights in the sky. When the moon and stars aren’t enough to light your way, Barebones Living’s Forest Lantern and Beacon Light add some lumens to your experience. And when suppertime rolls around, whipping up a hot, homestyle meal is no sweat with their line of cast iron cookware.

Social entrepreneur Robert Workman founded Barebones Living in 2012 with a mission to create products that reflect and support his innate love of nature, impactful living, and humanitarian pursuits. As Workman puts it, he wanted Barebones Living’s offerings “to inspire a desire to consciously engage with nature” and “help people provide for their own basic needs.”

Don’t let the company name fool you—Barebones’ lanterns, lights, and cookware are anything but barebones. The Forest Lantern carries 325 lumen capabilities by way of rechargeable Li-Ion batteries. One charge gives you up to four hours of warm light. On the low setting, the lantern can glow for over 80 hours. No matter how high you crank the light, the lantern will never be hot to the touch. When you need to plug in, the Forest Lantern’s built-in USB can charge your technology so you’re never left in the dark. This rough and tumble lantern sports a steel body with a handful of stylish, vintage-inspired finish options.

With the Beacon Light, lighting your surroundings or setting the mood is a snap. This super portable lantern has a simple dimming feature, and clips to your gear with a carabiner top. Standing is also a cinch with the Beacon’s sturdy base. With six LED bulbs, the light can generate 220 lumens on the high setting, and goes strong for three hours. Set it to low, and you’ll be set for over 200 hours. The Beacon has a battery-life indicator and a 30-inch cord for its rechargeable Li-Ion battery. Weighing in at only one pound 1.6 ounces, bringing your Beacon along won’t weigh you down.

When your Forest Lantern or Beacon leads you back to your Airstream campsite from hungry travels, it’s time to chow down. Barebones’ cast iron cookery products elevate campfire meals to a home-cooked level. These non-stick cast iron skillets and crocks have been pre-seasoned and come stovetop, oven, or campfire ready. With these products, you can easily serve perfectly seared and tenderly sautéed food in your Airstream or at your camp table.
