Airstream filed a voluntary recall with the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) in March 2017 affecting all Airstream Basecamp models manufactured in 2016 through March 9, 2017.

The safety and quality of Airstream products is our highest priority. This voluntary recall addresses instances where the clearance between the tire and wheel-well area is not sufficient to account for shock loads to the axle potentially causing the tire to make contact with the inner wheel well liner.

There are no known cases of tire failure related to this issue. Airstream is actively working with NHTSA to communicate with owners and has issued a field fix to Airstream dealers for this recall that involves a new axle, new tires and a new spare wheel/tire.

While affected Basecamp owners can continue to use their Basecamps as long as they inspect their tires for abnormal wear before and after each trip, owners should contact their preferred dealer to schedule a service appointment to address this issue. If abnormal tire wear is discovered, Airstream advises owners to stop towing their Basecamp and contact Airstream Customer Service and Technical Support for guidance.
