Cooking and Dining

Coasting along the highways and byways, you’ll find all kinds of local eats, treats, and temptations. Sampling the regional cuisine is part of the adventure! But when you’re traveling for days, weeks, or even months at a time, you begin to crave simple food and your five-a-day.

And if you’re heading into remote areas down the road less traveled, you want to have the option to enjoy a hot meal when the weather makes grilling or campfire cooking impossible.

It’s easy to eat better when you head out with a well-stocked kitchen. And a homemade meal on real plates somehow feels civilized, even when it’s simple. These are the basics that let you prep and serve just about anything.

Organization

Bins and organizers help keep small spaces streamlined. But more importantly, they help keep things in their place. Your new home sweet home might be rolling along at 65 mph, bouncing over potholes, or tackling a rutted mountain road. Having everything safe and secure in an organizational bin will not only help keep things in their place, it also will help you keep track of where everything is so it’s easy to find it when you need it.

Pro tip: When you have a good idea of what you’re bringing in your Airstream, place it all on shelves and in drawers. Then measure your spaces and see what sizes of organizers you need to corral the clutter and sort your stuff. Organizers are especially key in your refrigerator, where cans and containers can shake, rattle, and roll.

Moisture Protection

Moisture is your mortal enemy in an RV. It’s not just a problem on rainy days – a quick cold snap and the need to run your furnace can create liquid condensation on your interior walls and windows. It can be an issue in hot climates as well, with warm exteriors and air conditioned interiors that lead to condensation. Foggy windows and running droplets can quickly mask a beautiful view, and interior moisture can lead to maintenance issues you can avoid easily with a dehumidifier.

Trust us: Don’t leave home without a dehumidifier. Or, depending on the size of your rig, two. The Airstream Ultimate 4000 Dehumidifier includes an ionizer, which you’ll appreciate when your neighbor’s campfire grows a little too smoky. It’s a game-changer that will make your interior more comfortable no matter where you set up camp.

Interior Cleaning Essentials

When space is a premium, you’ll want to leave room for things way more fun than bottles of cleaning supplies. The E-Cloth system gets the job done with just a little water, and it’s lighter and more environmentally friendly, too.

Exterior Cleaning and Polishing

You fell in love with that trademark Airstream shine, right? Keep it glossy — show your aluminum a little TLC with a wash and polish that helps protect your investment. It does away with bugs, grime, and dust in no time.

Exterior Lighting

Ideally, you’ll always arrive at your site before dark. But traveling doesn’t always go according to plan. You’ll be glad for a battery-operated lantern when you have to set up late in an unfamiliar place.

Chocking and Leveling

When you park, you really want to stay put. Chocks and blocks are a must—especially on uneven ground. Chocks under your wheels help prevent your Airstream travel trailer from rolling, and a set of stackable blocks gives you a solid place to set your jack post or stabilizer jacks. You’ll know you got it right when your level is steady and the water in the sink and shower goes down the drain.

Tires and Roadside Assistance

Under-pressurized tires can make for a white-knuckle experience. A portable air pump lets you top off before you depart for the day. Even better, our favorite tire pump is also a jump start for your tow vehicle or touring coach. It’s peace of mind in a single package! Of course, don’t forget the torque wrench—it’s one of the most important tools to ensure your travel trailer’s tires are road-ready.

Security

At home, you just need to lock your doors. But on the road, you need to lock your whole home. A tongue lock makes it harder for a thief with a truck to ride away with your rig. The Airstream Anti-Theft Lock Kit includes three different locks for deterring theft while your travel trailer is hitched or unhitched from your tow vehicle.

Electrical

Your Airstream may resemble a toaster, but you certainly don’t want to toast the electronics. Depending on the campground, electrical hookups can be hit or miss. A surge protector is the gear you think don’t need until it’s too late, helping to protect your Airstream’s sensitive electrical system from surges, shorts, and faulty wiring in your campsite’s power post. This one will work with various amperages, providing ultimate reassurance.

Water Filtration

Without a water filter, you might find yourself with water everywhere but not a drop to drink. Water from a campsite hookup can vary in quality depending on the location, but with a filter, you can go with the flow. Attach it to a drinking-water hose—ours is up to 40 percent lighter than standard freshwater hoses and coils easily for storage.

Toilet and Bathroom

Investing in toilet treatments and RV paper is never flushing money away. Treatments help clear the lines and keep things fresh every time you flush. RV toilet paper is specially designed to be kind to your waste tank and the campground’s septic system (as well as your model’s macerator, if equipped). It dissolves quickly to help avoid clogs. And a hose support creates a downward flow, letting gravity do its work and helping to ensure that everything goes where it should.

Outdoor Essentials

You want to bring home memories — not leaves, dirt, bugs, and mud. An outdoor mat keeps the mess at bay. It’s a fantastic finishing touch and a way to add personality to your site. Kick off your stay by rolling out the red (or gray) carpet. Set up your camp chairs and you’re ready to kick back and relax. As Airstream founder Wally Byam said, you have the great wide world at your doorstep. Enjoy!
