Full time Airstreaming is a goal for many people, ‘Streamers and Dreamers alike. We recently had the chance to catch up with Brian Easterling & his wife Leigh about their experiences as full timers living riveted to a new adventure. As the people behind the popular Airstream blog Aluminarium, these two live riveted every day. As they sat working side by side in their former home, the Easterlings thought they would one day build a website for camping supplies. However, the dream of a website for camping supplies later morphed in a website to supply campers with amazing campsites across the nation.
Their Airstream story began with a desire to explore. They renovated a 22-foot 1963 Flying Cloud and rolled out of the restoration facility in LA “without any idea of what [they] were doing.” Very quickly they learned the rules of the road and spent 2 years traveling full time in their Airstream. A brief stint back “home” jumping from rental home to rental home reminded them of their Airstream years: “the happiest time” in their lives. With that sentiment, the two jumped back into Airstreaming with a brand new 27 foot 2012 Flying Cloud and into a new adventure: campendium.com.
Campendium is the complete campground research destination for modern RVers and tent campers. Covering RV parks, state- and national parks, national forest and BLM locations, the modern outdoors lover has a valuable resource at his or her hands in Campendium. With photos, filters, reviews and insights on cell service, Campendium provides campers with all the information they need to make smart camping decisions.
Since 2005, the Easterlings had been discussing a need for such a website, but it wasn’t until a little over two years ago while camping at Half Moon Bay State Beach that Campendium was born. Now, by compiling all campground data in one place, Campendium is upgrading the camping experience for everyone.
Plus, adventurers can add their own campsites to Campendium to include some of their favorites from across the nation. As a result, Campendium hasn’t just been able to impact countless campers and Airstreamers, but it also helps the Easterlings “Live Riveted.”
“For us creating something together is a huge part of our relationship and how we stay engaged. The fact that Campendium encompasses our lifestyle and gives us and other RVers the ability to share the camping experience is really exciting,” said Brian.
And engaging themselves fully in the Airstream life has helped them to build a community of Airstreamers with whom to share the experience. The folks who used to be their “Airstream Friends” now are great friends who happen to have Airstreams! Alongside these friends, the Easterlings get to celebrate life on the road and experience new campsites to include on Campendium.
“This is just the beginning for Campendium. What you see today is just the beginning of what we want to do,” said Brian.
We can’t wait to see where they take the site and where the site takes you! What is your favorite campsite? We’d love to hear, and then why don’t you pop over to Campendium to share!
