First time Airstream owner of an 1994 Limited Classic. We spent a month upgrading & personalizing. Decided to take the bull by the horns & take it on our first trip close to home. We set out for our destination with lots of apprehension & fear. But hey you only live once. Our time was to take 1hour & 30 mins. We did really well getting out of our very small close knit town & out onto the highway. We got off the exit for our destination and headed up what was a slight grade that grew into a full on mountain but without much notice upon hitting the crest of the mountain our transmission blew leaving us enough time to get the truck safely off the road but not the trailer. It was pointed out and down towards the over hang of the mountain. Now it's dark & pouring down raining. Without any room or power or ability to move. Called AAA they only wanted take care of truck but not trailer, called Travelers insurance co. Same deal. Well for all I cared the truck could be pushed off that mountain but for the trailer she was going where I was going. Travelers did place a call to the state police to get them involved & one call from them to a local BIG rig towing company pulled both the truck & trailer in one move off that mountain and up unto safe level ground.
Separated the vehicles and towing both to our destination. We made a grande entrance into our quiet sleepy campground and were deposited into our spot. Called it a night. Woke to a beautiful fall morning and lots of questions and admiration of our Airstream.
And YES..They still make them.
