Happy Earth Day, everyone! We believe every day is a chance to enjoy the great outdoors, travel, explore and marvel in the beauty of the world around us— and April seems to agree! With its annual Earth Day celebration smack in the middle, Keep America Beautiful month is devoted to sustaining and beautifying vibrant communities by supporting environmental protection, preventing litter and reducing waste. We want you to live with this mentality every day and month of the year with your Airstream, especially throughout the annual April movement towards better and more sustainable living.
Long before being "green" was a popularized trend, Keep America Beautiful formed in 1953 when a group of corporate and civic leaders met in New York City to discuss the revolutionary idea of bringing public and private sectors together to develop and promote a national cleanliness initiative.
April 22nd marks the anniversary of what many consider the birth of the environmental movement. In the midst of protests and war in the 1960s, Rachel Carson’s bestselling novel Silent Spring brought awareness to the environment and its effects on public health. Earth Day 1970 capitalized on this emerging environmental consciousness and brought ecological concerns on the forefront of the public’s minds. Every year thereafter, Earth Day has increased support for environmental programs, built activism in local communities and around the world and rekindled commitment to the world we live in.
As spring comes to life across the country and we begin enjoying the beautiful weather and the great outdoors, let’s be mindful of how we can participate in this movement alongside millions of others to beautify the world we live in. Have you looked into community clean-ups or National park events to engage in this Earth Day? What about participating in a beach or river clean-up or anti-littering efforts?
Volunteer at your local park. Install LED lightbulbs and solar panels in your home. Organize a recycling campaign. Help jumpstart a local garden or build green spaces in your community.
Participate in a highway or hiking trail clean-up. The opportunities for involvement in organizations that work to keep nature intact are endless!
