A New Airstream Adventure with Seasoned Airstreamers

With the new World Traveler 22RB in tow, long-time Airstreamers Marc and Tricia Leach set off on a road trip that incorporated both the natural world and an urban adventure. Creators of the wildly popular RV-centric YouTube channel Keep Your Daydream, Marc and Tricia were the perfect choice for putting World Traveler through its paces.  Mark and Tricia Leach walking on the boardwalk of a beach Venturing into one of Florida’s most popular destinations, they took the World Traveler 22RB to St. Petersburg, Florida and set up camp at a local campground just 10 minutes from downtown St. Pete and 30 minutes from Tampa. It was the ideal location to indulge in experiences in the natural world, with gorgeous waterfront views, orange sherbert sunsets, birdwatching galore, and beach walks. But the proximity to the sights, sounds, and tastes of St. Pete and Tampa meant Marc and Tricia could easily get into the city and enjoy delicious tacos, heaping Cuban sandwiches, rich coffee, and produce markets where Tricia could collect the ingredients for incredible campsite meals.  Marc and Tricia Leach, Keep Your Daydream camped outside Airstreams new World Traveler Travel Trailer“The World Traveler is perfect for stepping into travel on your own terms,” said Marc. “We loved the bright, spacious interior and being able to take it anywhere.”

Lightweight, Easy-to-Tow, and Ready to Roll

World Traveler is built on the same chassis as Airstream’s World Traveler global model sold in Europe and Asia. That global model's narrow design and lightweight construction are perfect for the tight roadways and smaller tow vehicles found beyond North America, and its interior is informed by the best of modern European design. While the global model features numerous differences – namely in the electrical system and some of its optional features – this US/Canada model is inspired by the same sense of convenience and comfort.

With a base weight of 3,700 pounds and a GVWR of 4,500 pounds (the total amount of weight taking into consideration water, gear, clothes, etc.) World Traveler 22RB can be easily towed by a variety of light duty trucks and SUVs. For Marc and Tricia, their Jeep Grand Cherokee was the perfect tow vehicle – especially because it was the vehicle currently sitting in their driveway.  Marc and Tricia Leach towing their Airstream World Traveler with a Jeep Grand Cherokee "It’s nice towing with the same vehicle I drive in town,” said Tricia of the World Traveler towing experience. “Towing with the Jeep Grand Cherokee was simple and stable, and I always felt in control when maneuvering.”

The easy maneuverability made navigating city streets a breeze, and they were able to park conveniently on the curb near a fresh fruit market so Tricia could grab ingredients for mango salsa. Spacing out the journey to the campground with a stop at the Florida Aquarium was easy, with the World Traveler navigating the crowded parking lot with ease.

“One of the best things about Airstreaming is how flexible travel becomes,” said Marc of hitting the road with World Traveler in tow. “We can break up drive days with interesting stops along the way or keep moving when we want. The World Traveler makes it easy to slip into a parking lot or even turn around when something really catches our eye.”

Airstream World Traveler Travel Trailer parked on the side of the roadA detour forced the need for a quick and legal U-turn, which the Jeep-World Traveler combo was more than capable of handling. And when they arrived at the campground, backing into the tight spot between palm trees was no issue, especially with the optional backup camera.

Standard and Optional Features in World Traveler 22RB

One of the standout features in World Traveler 22RB is its unique windows and window screens. In an effort to reduce overall weight, Airstream’s engineering team sourced lightweight dual-pane acrylic windows that open easily at an angle to allow fresh air to flow through the trailer interior. But the real magic happens in the versatile integrated blackout blinds and screens feature. Pull down the screen to allow airflowpull up the blind for privacy, or separate both to open the window completely – a unique feature not available elsewhere in Airstream’s travel trailer line.

Camping near St. Pete in December meant Tricia and Marc weren’t dealing with bugs, so pulling the screen all the way down allowed the couple to enjoy fresh air and unobstructed views through thtotally open windows. That unique functionality meant they could pass food from inside to outside to enjoy al fresco dining with their feet in the sand.

When the heat of the day set in, the couple could fire up the standard ducted 10,000 BTU air conditioner nestled under the interior curbside bed. Hiding the air conditioner under the bed meant moving it from its typical rooftop location, resulting in a streamlined roofline that helps increase aerodynamics.

In the event of chilly evenings or mornings, the A/C’s 11,600 BTU heat pump provides efficient electrical heat. And in colder climates, the ducted Truma Combi eco plus furnace-water heater combo allows for even more comfort, as well as efficient hot water.

In the galley, a standard 3.1 cubic foot refrigerator with freezer allowed plenty of room for Tricia to store ingredients (an optional 1.0 cubic foot under-bench dinette drawer refrigerator adds even more cold food storage for culinary adventures).

Interior of the World Traveler Travel Trailer, featuring the galley and fridgeAnd extending the manual Zip-Dee awning with linen-inspired fabric created a comfortable place for Marc and Tricia to relax, enjoy morning coffee, or edit their next YouTube video.

Plenty of Room in a Small Footprint

While World Traveler 22RB has a narrow European-inspired width, it doesn’t skimp on interior room to move about. Marc could work up front editing video for their Keep Your Daydream YouTube channel while Tricia settled in to read on the rear bed. In spite of its size, the wide center aisle meant the couple could easily move from front to back without tripping over each other. Marc and Tricia Leach lounging together at the World Traveler Dinette World Traveler’s versatile interior design comes to life especially in the front secondary sleeping area and dinette. The wall-mounted table quickly converts from a wide dinette to a flat sleeping area with plenty of room for up to two travelers. During the day, the dinette bolsters can be positioned against the front wall of the trailer to create a comfortable deep-seat sofa perfect for reading, relaxing, catching up on emails, or playing a game. When the dinette is set up, the additional sleeping cushions neatly tuck away under the roadside bench.  Marc and Tricia Leach lounging on World Traveler Dinette in bed position

All the Comforts of Home in World Traveler

Wally Byam famously promised that an Airstream would let you travel with all the comforts of home. World Traveler 22RB makes good on that promise, with a space-saving V-Shaped Twin bed in the rear, an onboard bathroom space with separate shower and lavatory areas, and a spacious galley in the midship on the curbside.  Interior feature of World Traveler Twin bed configuration and GalleyIn the galley, a sink sits adjacent to a wide countertop with plenty of room for meal prep. Tricia whipped up delicious pesto grilled chicken cutlet sandwiches and a side of fresh mango salsa with ingredientpurchased on their way into the campground. With World Traveler, you can explore regional ingredients and create delicious, nutritious meals – no need for quick stops at fast food. An optional microwave makes it easy to reheat leftovers.

Walking the beach and camping the Florida sand meant they came back to the trailer with sandy toes. The standard exterior shower with hot and cold water was perfect for cleaning up before heading inside. An aluminum entry step easily pulled out for ingress through the main entry door. And the seamless terrazzo-inspired vinyl flooring made cleanup simple if stray sand made it inside the trailer. Tricia Leach using the exterior shower on the World Traveler Travel Trailer And because travel isn’t complete without the right playlist, World Traveler 22RB is equipped with a standard JBL® stereo with Bluetooth® connectivity and two speakers.

Optional Off-grid Capability

World Traveler 22RB can be equipped with a variety of optional features that allow you to escape the campground and head off grid. The optional 300 W solar charging system with interior monitor allows travelers to harness the free and abundant power of the sun. The solar option is also available with optional 2.5 kWh lithium batteries with a built-in heater for even more powerful performance.

At the campsite, a 30 Amp SmartPlug® shore power service means you can run the A/C (or heat pump) and power all the outlets. And the hitch-mounted dual 20-pound LP tanks feed the two-burner cooktop, the Truma Combi water heater/furnace, and a hitch-mounted external LP port for outdoor grilling.  Exterior World Traveler boondocking at a beach in Tampa, Florida

Style for Miles in World Traveler

White aluminum walls inside World Traveler create an expansive interior that feels spacious in spite of its narrow footprint. The trailer is available in two décor packages – Sagebrush and Shoreline. The optional blue comforter with lumbar pillows, counter tops, and accent laminates are identical between décor packages, while the cushions offer green undertones in Sagebrush and lighter sandy tones in Shoreline. World Traveler Floorplan in Shoreline DecoreCustom sheets for the unique V-Shaped bed in World Traveler are available now as an aftermarket purchase through Airstream Supply Company.
