What is the Caravan to Carbon Neutral?
Caravan to Carbon Neutral is a partnership between the Airstream community and the National Forest Foundation (NFF) designed to reduce the environmental impact of Airstream travel. By planting trees to help sequester carbon, this program empowers Airstreamers to take meaningful action to protect the places we love by purchasing an annual Carbon Reduction Kit from the NFF through Airstream Supply Company.
Since its inception in 2021, Caravan to Carbon Neutral has supported the NFF in planting approximately 433,000 trees in six National Forests across the western United States. These trees absorb carbon dioxide, helping to mitigate the effects of climate change. They also help rebuild wildlife habitats, present soil erosion, protect water quality, and help heal wildfire scars.
In 2024, the Airstream community helped the NFF plant 60,637 trees across 313 acres in three National Forests. In California’s Lassen National Forest, some 30,000 native species seedlings were planted to offset damage from several wildfires. The 24,881 trees planted in Chippewa National Forest in Minnesota will diversify the forest to boost resilience to destructive pests and support wildlife. At Wyoming’s Shoshone National Forest, 5,756 trees were planted as part of a forest restoration project.
How It Works
The Caravan to Carbon Neutral starts at Airstream headquarters. For every new Airstream sold, we plant enough trees to neutralize the estimated carbon emissions from your first year of ownership. This figure includes the carbon emitted while driving your Airstream during your first year of ownership as well as that emitted while manufacturing and transporting it to your dealer.
This policy ensures that every new Airstream begins its journey with a net-zero carbon footprint, setting the stage for a lifetime of responsible travel.
After that first year, owners can continue to offset their Airstream’s carbon emissions by purchasing an annual Carbon Reduction Kit from the NFF through Airstream Supply Company. These tax-deductible kits are available at three levels, and every dollar directly supports planting trees in America’s National Forests.
