Airstream and Advertising

Have you ever discovered a paradise in the wilderness? A spot where you felt like you could stay forever? A hidden stream, a quiet canyon, a windswept shore? If such a scene permeates your dreams, prepare now to visit it - in an Airstream.

There is no wilderness too remote for an Airstream...shipshape as a trim yacht, maneuverable as a sports car, Airstream is the answer to the question, "how shall we be free?" Start living. Get out of your rut and on the road to travel adventure.

As a growing company, Airstream followed Wally Byam’s keen sense in advertising.

An amazing statistic is Airstream’s newspaper, The Caravanner. At its peak, the company mailed out over 500,000 a printing. Their mailing list consisted of Airstream owners, years of potential customers, and dealers.

After the Wally Byam Caravan Club (The Airstream Owner’s Club) was formed, The Caravanner carried membership rally information.

There is no doubt that The Airstream Story, their annual product brochure, became collector editions. The brochure introduced new models and contained beautiful photography, a follow-along narrative which introduced the reader to the joys of owning an Airstream, and detailed floorplans.

Always there were potential customers coming to the dealer’s lots to see what might be new in each Airstream. They were looking at self-containment features, designer fabrics, and utilitarian floorplans.

Dealers then signed up prospective customers for The Caravanner and other Airstream announcements. As a reminder of their visit to the Airstream dealer, a colorful post card was also mailed to the prospective customer.

What amazes me today is Airstream’s use in TV programs, magazine advertising, TV commercials, and business usage for a variety of products and services.

Airstream represents the elite medium used for product awareness by advertising agents.

Airstream’s primary norm is providing the best travel trailer in the market for owner’s enjoyment.

Ask Airstream owners about their Silver Bullet! Just please, whatever you do, don’t ask the usual Airstream question: so they still make these things?

Surprise, surprise! Sure, Airstream was founded long ago - way back in 1932 - but we're still manufacturing Airstreams today. The factory is in Jackson Center, Ohio.
