Thanksgiving Challenge Round Up

This past month, we challenged our Airstream community to share with us what they are truly thankful for in honor of the Thanksgiving holiday. Thanksgiving may have quickly come and gone, but we think that thankfulness is a way of life. We were so inspired by the grateful hearts of our Airstream community that we just had to share a few entries with you. See below to find out what your fellow Airstreamers are thankful for this holiday season!

- Sara Robbins: “I am so thankful for my partner in life, Natasha. 11 years ago my life was changed forever. She has expanded my horizons, helped me become a better person, and loves me unconditionally! Natasha has also documented all of our glamping-adventures which inspired me to create our website so I could share our glamping knowledge with other Airstreamers. This picture is one of her amazing images of the Milky Way, from our favorite campsite in Wyoming—Sugarloaf Campground.”

- Kate Gilbert: “This Thanksgiving I am thankful for the wide open spaces we are able to enjoy. We are so lucky as a nation to have public lands like BLM and National Forests to explore and enjoy. Having a 27-foot shiny home on wheels gives us the freedom to roam around deserts and mountains, forests and shorelines. Along the way we feel the joy of gathering experiences not things.”

- Ryan Danz: “I know the challenge is to celebrate one person that is special to me. But I was hoping we could asterisk this entry as there are 2 special someones in my life that are equally special. There is Claire, my sweetheart and Airstream partner in life and exploration. And there is also Elton, our black lab that has made our recent Airstream journey all the more perfect. Having him with us has made our new silver home on the road just as special as the home we've left behind. We have journeyed up and down the Southern California coast, staying in State campgrounds from Coronado to San Onofre, and have boondocked on residential streets overlooking the Pacific. We have as much fun going from Point A to Point B as we do setting up our new home once we've pulled in for the day/night. Life couldn't get much more perfect for us and we think this picture captures just a glimpse of what a day in the life in our Airstream looks like here in coastal San Diego.”

- Anne Krekelberg: “I am most grateful, always, for my husband, Bob- for his grace, humility, humor, and thoughtfulness, but also because he has transformed our home into a place of peace, surrounded by the sounds, smells, and sights of nature. His artful landscaping of our 3 acres and his construction ability, with the addition of a greenhouse, potting shed, deck, flagstone walkways, and more, makes every day a beautiful and gracious day of respite. While I was still active duty Navy, and received orders to Gulfport, MS with the Seabees (and ultimately two deployments to Iraq), he stayed in our home and I took our 2005 Safari to live in on the base RV park. Upon my return, i was surprised to find the beautiful potting shed he had made for me. He has made our house our home. I love our time spent working around the yard and on projects together. I also love our Airstream adventures with our two dogs, whether for days or weeks away.”

- Renee Flanagan: “Determining when to buy an airstream is a challenge - now, as empty nesters, or at retirement? We "made a move" and purchased a 25-foot Eddie Bauer for our 20th anniversary. Why now? We work full-time, have a 16-year-old daughter that will be off to college in a few years, and are avid outdoor recreationists (campers, hikers, mountain bikers, and skiers). What an amazing summer and fall dry camping for 1-4 nights at a time through National Forests and Parks in Utah. The time spent adventuring, appreciating our natural resources and national treasures, sitting by the camp fire, and truly engaging in each others lives has brought us closer than I thought possible. Our Airstream has and will be the catalyst for endless family adventures now and for many generations to come.”
