I is for Innovation

Airstream founder Wally Byam not only created Airstream, Inc. but also challenged us “to strive endlessly to stir the venturesome spirit.” He also encouraged us all “to open a whole world of new experiences.” And today, here at Airstream, we love that Airstream travel trailers allow people to live the life of their dreams, just as Wally intended. People live, play, rest, travel and work in their Airstreams, and we have the privilege of hearing stories about how people use their travel trailers in a way that suits them perfectly.

Today we want to focus on not just people who use their Airstreams to fit their lifestyles, but on those who use Airstreams in some of the most innovative ways possible! Check them out below:

In the early days of the coastal town of Seaside, Florida, architects, builders and homeowners all stayed in Airstream trailers as they worked to plan their quaint community. And now when you drive down 30-A to make a visit to “Land Yacht Heaven,” you will see Airstreams lining the streets, now being used as unique and independent food vendors. From ice cream to organic fare to hot dogs, Seaside, Florida is a beach-lovers, food-lovers and Airstream-lovers perfect travel destination!

Mutual of Omaha’s Aha Moment Tour has taken a 34’ Airstream Trailer and created its own mobile TV studio inside! The Aha Moment Tour trailer travels around the country each summer recording the life changing moments of inspiration or “aha moments” of people from all walks of life! Since the start of the tour, more than 4,000 people have stepped into the Airstream mobile studio to share their aha moments. Each summer, one video from the tour is even chosen to become a national TV commercial for Mutual of Omaha! In fact, one of the past finalists even recently launched a mobile version in an Airstream of their restaurant, the Taco Sisters!

Husband and wife team Ron and Wendy Riedi wanted to create a place for cigar smokers to be able to light up their stogies due to laws banning smoking in many bars and restaurants. And what was the perfect place to create their lounge? A 1973 Airstream trailer, of course! They created Street Car Cigars, a mobile cigar lounge with wood paneled walls, leather seats, humidors and 5 TVs. The lounge even sells cigars and is available for private rentals.

Bootleg Market is an Airstream turned into shoe store! This Austin, Texas company was founded in 2011 and offers an eclectic vintage and new shoe collection to customers. Founder Sarah Ellison Lewis sells her shoes to the trendy Austin community in the bustling Barton Springs area each weekend.

Do you know of any other innovative uses for Airstreams today? We want to hear! Share them with us on our Facebook page!
